St. Brendan state champion swimmer Zuhayr Pigot ready for challenges at University of North Carolina

St. Brendan High School state champion swimmer Zuhayr Pigot was interviewed by Miami Herald Youth Sports Reporter Alexa Lorenzo at the Miami-based private school. Pigot earned a scholarship to NCAA Division I University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Lorenzo, a senior, is president of the Broadcasting Honor Society at St. Brendan.

St. Brendan High School senior swimmer Zuhayr Pigot is a standout student athlete, earning a scholarship to NCAA Division I University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

During the FHSAA Class 2A State Swimming Championships in Stuart, Pigot won the state title in the 50-yard freestyle and was runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly. In the state prelims to qualify for the state finals, Pigot was second in the 50 freestyle and first in the 100 butterfly.

Pigot became the overall fastest male swimmer in the 50 freestyle in the four classifications (4A, 3A, 2A, 1A) at state. A high school Sabre, he is looking forward to academics and athletics with the college Tar Heels.
