Vancouver Canucks standout mascot Fin the Whale of the NHL will be participating once again in the annual Mascot Games, presented by Wawa and benefiting New Hope for Kids, on June 23-24 at the Amway Center in Orlando.

The Mascot Games features approximately 30 mascots from college and pro sports teams across North America, competing in a variety of games. The family-friendly event is a fun time for everyone, kids and adults.

Canada will be well represented again at the Mascot Games with Carlton of the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs and Fin the Whale. Fin, who travels the farthest to Orlando, competes in his 14th Mascot Games.

Last year, Florida Hospital for Children Blue Team, captained by Fin the Whale, won Day One. His team also featured Champ (NBA Dallas Mavericks); Lil Red (NCAA University of Nebraska); Sebastian the Ibis (NCAA University of Miami); Shades (ECHL Orlando Solar Bears); and Thunderbug (NHL Tampa Bay Lightning).

Mascots can not talk; so the interview with Fin the Whale was conducted via email.

Here we go.

JV: How have you been preparing for the Games?

FTW: GOING TO CHANGE IT UP THIS YEAR AND FOCUS MORE ON A BALANCE OF SALMON and KELP SHAKES ALONG WITH A YOGA ROUTINE. MY FAVORITE YOGA PRACTICE/POSITION IS ‘BREACHING WHALE.’

---

JV: Will you be swimming the long way to the Mascot Games?

FTW: SWINMING IS ALWAY AN OPTION. I DID CONSIDER HITCHHIKING BUT NOT REALLY SAFE, AND I AM NOT THE BEST CONVERSATIONALIST.

---

JV: Have you received any tips from Canucks’ players?

FTW: WORK HARD. FOCUS. BE A TEAM PLAYER.

---

JV: Favorite things to do in Orlando, away from the Games?

FTW: LOVE THE WATER - POOL, BEACH OR EVEN A THEME PARK. WAVE POOLS ARE COOL

--

JV: Mascot Games rival? Mascot Games ally?

FTW: ANY OF THE NHL TEAMS ARE ALWAYS A RIVAL. OF COURSE STUFF, THE HOST, IS A CHALLENGE AND ALWAYS BRINGS THE BEST OUT.

NOT TOO MANY ALLIES AS THE TEAMS ALWAYS CHANGE, BUT MASCOTS WEARING BLUE ARE ALWAYS OK WITH ME

---

JV: Favorite pro wrestlers (past and present)?

FTW: NOT REALLY INTO THE WRESTLING SCENE BUT GOING OLD SCHOOL. THE BRITISH BULLDOG DAVY BOY SMITH AND THE ROCK ARE ICONIC.
