Dolphins lose cornerback Storm Duck to ankle injury

The Miami Dolphins lost a starter at one of the team’s thinnest positions in Sunday’s season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Storm Duck, who earned the starting tole in his second season with the Dolphins, sustained a left ankle injury during a pile up situation in the second quarter.

Duck, who like the rest of Miami’s defense, was struggling in Sunday’s game against the Colts, walked off the field and into the locker room. His status for the remainder of the game wasn’t specified.

With Duck sidelined the Dolphins were forced to play Rasul Douglas, a nine-year veteran who joined the team two weeks ago, as the cornerback opposite Jack Jones.

Miami’s secondary was already depleted by injury after losing Artie Burns to a season-ending knee injury on the first day of training camp, Kader Kohou to a season-ending knee injury in the first week of training camp. Ethan Bonner is sidelined by a hamstring strain he sustained in Miami’s preseason win over the Detroit Lions three weeks ago.

All the injuries forced Miami to sign Jones, Douglas, Cornell Armstrong (practice squad), and Mike Hilton (released) during the four weeks of training camp, but the unit continues to struggle.

With Jones and Douglas on the boundary, and rookie cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. handling the nickel role, the only available is cornerabck is Juju Brents, who was claimed off waivers from the Colts last week.
