NBA Playoffs, Panthers are top South Florida sports stories
1. HEAT
Miami hosts Charlotte to open playoffs Sunday: NBA regular season ended with Golden State’s 73rd win and Kobe Bryant’s 60 points. Top that, first round! Hornets a trendy pick to upset No. 3 Heat. Time for Miami to demonstrate it is built for a deep run, not a one-and-done.
2. PANTHERS
Luongo to the rescue as series heads to Brooklyn: In a playoff-opening loss, Florida’s defense was awful. In Friday’s Game 2 win it was near perfect. Roberto Luongo has almost 30,000 saves in his career. He might have just saved a series, and a season.
3. DOLPHINS
Season schedule is out (uh oh) as Fins prepare for draft: Does new Dolphins coach Adam Gase have enemies? Apparently one — the guy who scheduled Miami to open the season at Seattle and New England. Fins hope they fare better in the NFL Draft than they did with the schedule.
4. MARLINS
Shh. Don’t tell anybody, but Fish in midst of homestand: Miami is in the midst of seven games in a row at Marlins Park. The question is, with the Heat and Panthers both in the playoffs and Dolphins’ draft upcoming, will South Florida even notice?
5. HURRICANES
UM’s spring game ends offseason football practice: Hurricanes’ spring game, the first under Mark Richt, was Saturday in Fort Lauderdale. Want a sad fact? Canes baseball is ranked No. 1, but more fans care about a glorified football practice.
