Canes hoping for top 10 football bounty Wednesday: ESPN ranked Miami’s incoming class 14th in the nation as coach Mark Richt sought late adds. National Signing Day: When media instantly judges how schools did by guessing what a bunch of 17-year-olds might be in three years.
2. HEAT
Bosh joins Wade as All-Star while Miami teeters in standings: Chris Bosh was named an Eastern reserve, joining All-Star starter Dwyane Wade as Miami precariously hung on to seventh place in the conference. Hmm. Should a team with two All-Stars be struggling to make the playoffs?
3. HURRICANES
Fresh off win over Duke, UM men host Notre Dame: No. 15 UM, off a big home basketball win over Duke, hosts No. 25 Notre Dame on Wednesday with another sellout crowd expected. Expectations have risen like attendance has. Is it Sweet 16 or bust now?
4. ALL-STAR GAMES
Super Bowl in a week, but, first, it’s the Pro Bowl! NFL Pro Bowl and NHL All-Star Game both are Sunday. Much local presence with four Dolphins playing and four Florida Panthers including the coach, but, sorry, I’d still rather watch a chess match in slow motion than either game.
5. TENNIS
It’s championship weekend for Australian Open, year’s first major: Novak Djokovic faces Andy Murray in Sunday’s 1 vs. 2 men’s final. On Saturday, defending champ Serena Williams was a big favorite over Angelique Kerber. Then again, Serena is a big favorite over everybody.
