Greg Cote’s Passer Rankings: Tannehill wins Week 16, Brees leads three-man race at top
The Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill wins Week 16 with 56.80 points for his first weekly title of the season and moves up one spot to 10th overall in the Miami Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) quarterback rakings. His season total of 458.30 points also is a new Miami record, breaking the former mark of 439.65 set by Chad Pennington in 2008. Drew Brees maintains his season lead entering the final week, but Ben Roethlisberger and Peyton Manning both are in a reasonable position to surpass him. Our rankings are cumulative and use a simple formula unchanged since their inception in 1998, factoring accuracy, yardage, TD/interception ratio and team result. Most rating systems including the NFL’s and ESPN’s are complicated and percent based, allowing players who miss half a season to still win a title. Our rankings place a premium on consistently productive passers who avoid injury or benching. Find our expanded final season Top 40 in this space next Sunday:
