Greg Cote: Jets’ Fitzpatrick wins Week 13, but Pats’ Brady in charge atop Miami Herald QB rankings
The New York Jets’ Ryan Fitzpatrick wins the Week 13 title with 52.50 points in the Miami Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) NFL quarterbacks rankings, while New England’s Tom Brady maintains a sizable season lead with four weeks to play. Brady had an off game but grew his lead because second-place Philip Rivers did worse, while Carson Palmer moved within passing distance of Rivers. Miami’s Ryan Tannehill falls one more spot, to 14th place. Our rankings are cumulative but now that byes have ended the playing field has leveled. Our simple formula, unchanged since its inception in 1998, factors accuracy, yardage, TD/interception ratio and team result. Most ratings including the NFL’s and ESPN’s are complicated and percent based, allowing players who miss half a season to still win a title. Our rankings place a premium on consistently productive passers who avoid injury or benching. Find our updated Top 20 in this space every Sunday.
