Greg Cote’s hot topics of the week: Fins in Philly, Canes, Heat and vroom

Fins visit Philadelphia on Sunday, then host return of Romo: Miami is 3-5, has lost two in a row, is 0-4 in its division, is an underdog in Philadelphia, then hosts Dallas and the return from injury of Tony Romo. Oy. You like a challenge, Dan Campbell? You got one.

UM visits Chapel Hill to see ACC title hopes perish: Al Golden never could seem to get that elusive “signature win.” Saturday would have been that for interim replacement Larry Scott, but the Hurricanes did not have another miracle in them.

Bosh, hot Heat earn a few days off; Chalmers traded: Heat is 6-3 entering a rare four days off before returning to action here Tuesday. Meantime, Mario Chalmers was traded in a tax-relief move. Give Chalmers this: He lost his starting job and his minutes, but he never lost his swagger.

Homestead-Miami Speedway on deck to host season finale: NASCAR’s race Sunday in Phoenix will determine which three drivers join retiring star Jeff Gordon for the championship next Sunday in Homestead. Gordon winning would be a storybook ending. Am picturing Cinderella in a flame-retardant racing suit and earplugs.

Early challenge for UM men: Jim Larrañaga’s team gets its first real test of the young season in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament. If they win, they could get where many think they belong: in the Top 25.
