Greg Cote’s Passer Rankings: Manning’s season lead narrows, Fitzpatrick takes week
The Texans’ Ryan Fitzpatrick takes Week 13 honors with 55.90 points, the season’s fourth-highest total, and Dolphin Ryan Tannehill bumps up one spot to No. 10 in the Miami Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) quarterback rankings. But the real race is at the top of the table, where Peyton Manning’s overall season lead is whittled to just 13 points and change with four weeks to play. At least four other QBs are positioned in the passing lane and within catching distance. Our rankings are cumulative and use a simple formula unchanged since its inception in 1998, factoring accuracy, yardage, TD/interception ratio and team result. Most rating systems including the NFL’s and ESPN’s are complicated and percentile based, allowing players who miss half a season to still win a title. Our rankings place a premium on consistently productive passers who avoid injury or benching. Find our updated season Top 20 in this space every Sunday:
