Greg Cote’s Thursday NFL pick: Seahawks over 49ers
SEAHAWKS (2-4) AT 49ERS (2-4)
Line: SEA by 6.
Cote’s pick: SEA 20-13.
TV: 8:30 p.m. Thursday, CBS/NFLN (airing in South Florida).
As NFL Week 7 kicks off we would note that only 8.3 percent of teams with 2-4 records since 1990 (14 of 168) have gone on to make the playoffs. I still think Seattle will be one of those exceptions, but they need to get on a roll. They did a year ago, when two losses in a row in October were followed by a 9-1 run to end the season. Seahawks have led in fourth quarter of all four losses, which tells me they aren’t very far from being very good. They also are on a 5-1 series roll vs. their NFC West-rival 49ers. Colin Kaepernick has raised his game the past couple of weeks but has a terrible 54.1 career passer rating vs. this opponent, his personal nemesis, while Russell Wilson is 3-0 in Thursday night games. The point spread feels a tad big for what figures as a low-scoring game, but I like the ’Hawks as a touchdown better.
