Forty-eight teams are now two. It’s Argentina vs. Spain for the men’s FIFA World Cup championship on Sunday at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Sorry, England. Sorry, France. Sorry, U.S. team and everybody else. Only the two suvivors play on Sunday.
So who do you want to win? Where is your rooting interest? Not who you’d bet will win -- but who you’ll be cheering for.
Argentina, led of course by the incomparable Lionel Messi, is the reigning champion, have in won in 2022 and also in 1978 and 1986.
Spain, featuring sensational teen Lamine Yamal, won it all in 2010 and is in the final for only the second time.
