Greg Cote’s Poll Dance: Will Miami Heat win the Giannis sweepstakes? Vote now
“The Miami Heat win the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes!” Or ... “the Heat fail again to land Giannis.”
One of those statements will be true, and soon, maybe by next week. So which will it be?
I’m still optimistic (see column link below) that Miami will successfully trade for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar, with third-team involvement a strong possibility. Others see the Boston Celtics as a big threat to get him instead, and many other teams are still lurking in the hunt.
A deal seems close, in that the Bucks have stated they want to either trade Giannis or decide to keep him by the June 23-24 NBA Draft. He is under contract for the 2026-27 season, after which he could become a free agent ... and reignite all the present drama over his future.
The latest next-team betting odds per DraftKings have the Heat a narrow favorite over the Celtics, with his staying in Milwaukee third.
