Greg Cote’s Poll Dance: Should now-eligible Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe be put in Hall of Fame? Vote now!
[Note to readers: The Poll Dance (and Hot Button Top 10) are taking off this Sunday, May 25. Both will be back next Sunday, June 1.]
Should Pete Rose and/or “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, both newly eligible, be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame?
Rose, of course, drew a lifetime ban for betting on baseball (though on his own team to win), as Jackson after being implicated in the 1919 Black Sox scandal (though historical review since finds his guilt highly dubious.) Both men had their lifetime bans posthumously lifted when MLB ruled this week that lifetime bans end with a player’s death.
I explain more about both situations and advocate that both should be inducted in this new column.
But this isn’t about my vote, it’s about yours.
Would you like to see Rose and Shoeless Joe in the Hall? Both? Neither? One but not the other? You’re on the clock.
Vote as many times as you’d like or until your fingers get tired.
GREG COTE POLL DANCE: SHOULD ROSE AND SHOELESS JOE BE IN HALL OF FAME?:
Previous Poll Dance verdict: Heat’s offseason should go big, not stand pat: We asked, “What should Miami Heat be thinking heading into this offseason?” You said: “Make no one untouchable and go after Giannis or another needed star,” 54 percent; and “Keep and build around the core of Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo,” 46 percent.
