Burrow wins Week 17, grows lead in Herald NFL QB race — but 3 chase season crown into final week

BENGALS’ BURROW WINS WEEK 17, GROWS OVERALL LEAD — BUT TWO ARE CHASING HIM FOR SEASON CROWN AS WE ENTER FINAL WEEK IN MIAMI HERALD NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS: Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow scored a 63.60-point game — second highest of the season — to win Week 17 honors for his first weekly title of the year in the Herald’s latest NFL quarterback rankings. The well-timed huge game grows Burrow’s overall season lead to 22 points and change over second-place Jared Goff of Detroit entering the final week of the regular season. That’s close enough to be considered the passing lane. So is third-place Baker Mayfield of Tampa Bay (but barely), trailing by just more than 46 points. All three of their teams faces a high-stakes games in Week 18, all but assuring a full game from each. All three also are chasing their first season championship, though Goff finished second last season and Burrow third in 2022. Miami’s Tua Tagovailao slips three spots to 14th overall after missing last week with a hip injury. The Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) rankings are in their 27th season after starting in 1998 with Steve Young the inaugural season winner. Our cumulative system rewards players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Because the rankings are cumulative (not percentile-based), players on a bye week took a temporary hit that evened out over the course of a season. Our ratings formula factors accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. These are passer ratings per se and do not include a QB’s running statistics. The updated 2024 top 20 (plus other Dolphins) entering the final Week 18:
