Atlanta’s Cousins (barely) wins Week 8, Tua starts climb back in Miami Herald NFL QB Rankings

FALCONS’ COUSINS WINS WEEK 8 CROWN TO BECOME YEAR’S FIRST TWO-TIME CHAMP, BUCS’ MAYFIELD MAINTAINS OVERALL SEASON LEAD AND TUA BEGINS LONG CLIMB BACK IN UPDATED MIAMI HERALD NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS: Sunday’s Atlanta-Tampa Bay game weighed big in the Herald’s NFL Quarterback Rankings this week. The Falcons’ Kirk Cousins wins Week 8 honors with a 47.80-point game, edging Denver rookie Bo Nix by less than one point for the weekly honor. Cousins also won Week 5. Nix in second by 0.60 marks the season’s closest margin for a weekly title. And the Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield grows his overall season lead atop the chart, though the margin is misleadingly large because Tampa Bay has yet to have its bye week, unlike some other QBs chasing him. Because our ratings system is cumulative, not percentile-based, players on a bye suffer a temporary hit that evens out over the course of a season. Miami’s Tagovailoa returned to action with a solid 32.70 point game to jump four spots to No. 31 overall. Can he fight his way up into the Top 20? The Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) rankings are in their 27th season after starting in 1998 with Steve Young the inaugural season champ. Our cumulative system rewards players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Our formula factors accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. These are passer ratings per se and do not include a QB’s running statistics. The updated 2024 top 20 (plus Dolphins) entering Week 9:
