Herald NFL Week 2 QB Rankings: Are the meek (passers) inheriting the Earth? Another surprise leader
GUYS BELOW TOP TIER CONTINUE EARLY DOMINATION AS SEATTLE’S GENO SMITH WINS WEEK 2, TAKES SEASON LEAD IN MIAMI HERALD NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS: The first two weeks of an unpredictable NFL season have turned the norm on its head with a spate of low scores and upsets. And that is reflected in the Miami Herald NFL Quarterback Rankings thus far as QBs below the top tier are dominating early. Seattle’s Geno Smith takes the Week 2 title after Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield won the opening week. Smith also leaps into the overall early-season lead -- with Las Vegas’ Gardner Minshew a very close second. (The Dolphins face a hot Smith this coming Sunday in Seattle.) Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa debuted at No. 6 last week but plummets to 20th place and now faces time missed with a concussion. The Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) rankings are in their 27th season after starting in 1998 with Steve Young the inaugural season champion. Our ratings system is cumulative not percentile-based, rewarding players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Our ratings formula factors accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. These are passer ratings per se and do not include a QB’s running stats.
