Burrow busts out for Week 5 title, Tua stays No. 1, Mahomes makes move in new Herald NFL QB rankings
BURROW SHAKES OFF BAD START TO SEASON, WINS WEEK 5; DOLPHINS’ TAGOVAILOA MAINTAINS OVERALL LEAD IN MIAMI HERALD’S UPDATED NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS: Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow shook off a disappointing start to his season with a 52.85-point game to win Week 5 honors and catapult from 29th place to 18th in the updated Miami Herald NFL quarterback rankings. Defending season champion Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City also makes a move, leaping from 12th place to No. 5. Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa maintains the No. 1 ranking overall for the second straight week. This is the 26th season for the Herald rankings. The Passer Success System (PASS) rankings began in 1998, with Steve Young the inaugural season champ. Our ratings system is cumulative not percentile-based, rewarding players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Because it is cumulative, players on a bye week take a temporary hit that evens out over the course of a season. Our ratings formula factors accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. They are passer ratings per se and do not include a QB’s running statistics.
