NFL Thursday night: Woeful Bears on 14-game losing streak, but here’s why they can win at Washington
NFL WEEK 5
GREG COTE’S THURSDAY PICK
BEARS (0-4) at COMMANDERS (2-2)
Line: WAS by 5 1/2.
Cote’s pick: WAS, 27-23.
TV: 8:15 p.m., Prime Video.
When we last saw the NFL it was that turd of a Seahawks-Giants game Monday night. Now King Sport returns to launch Week 5 Thursday by putting Chicago and its 14-game losing streak in prime time for what could be another stinker. I don’t wanna say the Bears are awful, but coach Matt Eberflus has had his name changed to Everflustered by acclimation. And yet I give Chitown a fair upset shot here and sort of like this dog-plus-5 1/2 points. Justin Fields is coming off his best game as a pro and faces a struggling Washington defense whipped for 104 points across the past three games. If Bears can generate a pass rush (for a change) and pressure green Sam Howell, an outright upset could happen. I’ll go with the Chicago cover instead. Bears are on a 1-9 skid in night games, and no NFL team is more overdue some law-of-averages luck than this one.
