Ravens’ Jackson wins Week 5 with fourth-best game in 24-year history of Herald NFL QB rankings

RAVENS’ JACKSON MAKES RUN AT ALL-TIME RECORD, BUCS’ BRADY RETAKES SEASON LEAD IN MIAMI HERALD’S NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS THROUGH WEEK 5: With his Monday night comeback show Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson scored a season-best 70.10-point game — fourth highest in the 24-year history of the Miami Herald’s Passer Success System quarterback rankings. The performance sends Jackson rocketing from 25th to ninth in the season standings. It was the best single-game score since 2015. The all-time record is an 80.10-point game, by Ben Roethlisberger in 2014. Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady strafed the Dolphins for a 59.55-point game, which was the Week 5 and season high until Jackson obliterated it. Still, it was enough for Brady to leapfrog Arizona’s Kyler Murray back into first place overall. (Brady also led after Week 3). Miami’s Jacoby Brissett, starting a third and perhaps last game in place of injured Tua Taglovailao, sticks in 28th place despite a 31.75-point game that ranked 15th leaguewide for the week. This is the 24th year for our annual rankings, which began in 1998 — Steve Young the inaugural season champion. Our rankings factor accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. They are passer ratings only and do not include a QB’s running statistics. Most major passer rankings including the NFL’s and ESPN’s are percentile based, allowing a player who missed half a season to still win a title. Our system is cumulative, rewarding players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. The top 20 (plus Dolphins) after Week 5:
