Greg Cote Show podcast: ‘Being Izzy.’ ESPN personality talks coming out as gay and his life since
The Greg Cote Show podcast’s new Episode 30, out now, welcomes back special guest Izzy Gutierrez, the ESPN personality and NBA reporter, for Part 2 of our conversation — so different from the last.
A week ago we delved into a lot of sports talk with Gutierrez and some fun, silly stuff.
Now? There are some laughs intermingled, but now we we get serious.
This is the fifth anniversary of Izzy coming out as gay, revealing his true self to the world. He discusses the journey that got him to that truth, and whether his high-profile job in the sports world complicated his coming out.
Izzy also discusses his hardships and heartaches during the past five years, including the end of his marriage, his husband’s attempted suicide and ultimate passing, just recently. And the support system he drew upon to deal with all of that emotionally.
It is, I think, an important conversation, a very personal story that many of us, gay or straight, will find touching or be able to relate to.
At the end of the episode we get back to what our podcast likes most — having fun — by bringing you the latest installment of the love-it-or-hate-it Mount Gregmore Name Game — the M’s. Which name will reign and who’ll be the king of that name? Only one way to find out.
Hear all of this and more in the new Greg Cote Show podcast Episode 30! A new episode drops every Monday morning on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, Stitcher, Megaphone — wherever you do your podding, including of course at MiamiHerald.com.
Our podcast debuted in March (just before the pandemic hit), and overwhelming support from our loyal and growing pod family of listeners nationwide and beyond has been terrific, humbling and much appreciated. Thank you all so much, and please continue to subscribe, rate and review.
