Surprise! A first-time winner claims the Miami Herald’s 22nd annual NFL QB season championship.
COWBOYS’ PRESCOTT WINS WEEK 17 TO CLINCH FIRST SEASON TITLE IN MIAMI HERALD NFL QUARTERBACK RANKINGS: A first-time winner, Dallas’ Dak Prescott, has won the Miami Herald’s 22nd season championship of NFL quarterbacks. Prescott had never threatened for the crown before, finishing ninth, 15th and 11th his first seasons. He beat Seattle’s Russell’s Wilson — 523.05 total points to 504.55 — the lowest winning total since Peyton Manning in 2006. Miami’s Ryan Fitzpatrick rises four spots to finish in the top 20 at 19th. Our rankings, which began in 1998, factor accuracy, passing yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. (They do not include a QB’s running statistics, which is why players such as Lamar Jackson might rank lower than expected). Most major passer rankings, including the NFL’s and ESPN’s, are percentile based, allowing players who miss half a season to still win a title. Our system is cumulative, rewarding players who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. The expanded, final Top 30 for 2019:
