Hot Button: Test for Dolphins; Hurricanes season on rocks
1. DOLPHINS
Miami hosts Buffalo in huge division test: Since last making playoffs in 2008 the Dolphins rank 25th in NFL in home record (.466), 26th in division record (.395) and 30th in record following a win (.333). They have chance Sunday to improve in all three key areas. Or, not.
2. HURRICANES
Season slipping away after loss in Blacksburg: Wasn’t it about a minute ago UM was 4-0 and ranked No. 10? Three losses in a row later, including Thursday’s 37-16 spanking at Virginia Tech, has Canes reeling. Oh, and how was that honeymoon, Mark Richt? It’s over.
3. HEAT
Opening Week as team enters new era: Heat open its 29th NBA season Wednesday in Orlando, then Friday at home vs. Charlotte. No Big 3. No LeBron. No Wade. No Bosh. No earthly idea how good this rebooted Miami team might be as transitional season begins new era.
4. BASEBALL
At last, World Series on deck: The Cleveland Indians were waiting as the Cubs and Dodgers decided the NL pennant Saturday night (or, if needed, in a Game 7 Sunday). If there is a god, of course, it’ll be the Cubbies in World Series Game 1 on Tuesday night.
5. PANTHERS
Jagr scores 750th career goal: Cats are five games into young NHL season as they face four-game road trip, but headline so far is Jaromir Jagr’s 750th goal. You know how you’re judged by the company you keep? Jagr trails only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe.
