What Cristobal said about Miami Hurricanes’ 2024 additions on offense
Quick hits from Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal on the team’s 11 Class of 2024 additions on offense:
▪ Quarterback Judd Anderson: “He impressed us since Day One” even as a basketball player, “with his leadership skills, balance, body control. He was relatively new at quarterback before he made a move to another [school]. Flat out tough, unfazed. Tremendous appetite for betterment.”
▪ Running backs Jordan Lyle and Chris Wheatley-Humphrey: “Two guys that amassed a massive amount of yardage. Tough yards, make people miss. Catch out of the backfield. High IQ guys.”
▪ Receiver Ny Carr: “That room took a monster step. He’s like a rocket ship -- extremely, fast and explosive. Competitor. If the ball is in the air, he will find a way to get it. All three of these [2024 receiver signings] are relentless competitors and unselfish teammates.”
▪ Receiver Chance Robinson: “Chance launched this thing at the spring game when he committed right after it. That led to a bunch of other guys that played together growing up. That guy has completely changed his body over the past 12 months. Physical, fast, strong. Elite player. Makes all the contested catches.”
▪ Receiver Josisa Trader: “They are human highlight films. This guy, like Chance, is a guy we’ve been recruiting for multiple years.”
Cristobal said these new receivers are “game changers. Guys that can beat man coverage. Can find soft spots. If [the pass is] not a perfect throw, they can go up and make it happen.”
▪ Tight end Elija Lofton: “He does it at all. That is as versatile a player as I have ever seen. He runs it as good as any tailback you watch on film. You see him as a detached wide receiver. You see him blocking. You see him stretching the field vertically. Has natural power and strength. Another guy we feel is college ready.”
▪ Junior college offensive lineman Markel Bell: “Human sky scraper. Eric Winston saw him before a game on the sideline and said, ‘Oh my Lord.’
“He’s the top junior college offensive lineman in the country. Not just the size but the athleticism. With a… good spring, he will be ready to help us immediately.”
▪ Center Nino Francavilla: “He was down here vacationing and heard Miami was having a camp and said he wants to prove he can play. He knocked it out of the park. We offered him [soon after]. Has what [you want] in a center - great personality, command of the room. Powerful.”
▪ Offensive lineman Juan Minaya: “Big; 6-5 range, on the way to 6-6, 340 pounds. Just a mauler. Dents the line of scrimmage, has really good balance.”
▪ Offensive lineman Deryc Plazz: “Plazz and Minaya have been tremendous ambassadors and recruiters for this class. Plazz is super athletic, long, lean, 280-290 pounds, with potential to be 320 plus.”
