Live blog: Dolphins add these 19 undrafted rookies after NFL Draft, including two Hurricanes
The Dolphins were expected to be active in the undrafted rookie market in the minutes and hours after the draft ended on Saturday evening.
Keep checking back all evening for updates on the Dolphins’ signings. We’ll add the most recent additions on top.
10:15 p.m.: The Dolphins signed Oklahoma punter Michael Turk to compete with free agent addition Jake Bailey.
Turk, the nephew of longtime NFL punter Matt Turk, was a first-team all-Big 12 selection in 2022 and was third in the FBS in gross punt average (46.8 on 63 punts), with 24 fair catches, 22 inside the 20 and 10 touchbacks.
10 p.m.: Miami Hurricanes guard/tackle DJ Scaife is signing with the Dolphins, according to a source. He’s the second Hurricanes player to agree to terms with the Dolphins after the draft, joining Mitchel Agude.
Scaife started 12 games at right tackle in 2019, started 11 games at right guard in 2020, started eight games at right guard in 2021 and returned to the starting right tackle job last season.
9:45 p.m.: The Dolphins signed Caly Poly Tech receiver Chris Coleman, according to a source. Chris Coleman, 5-11, caught 58 passes for 912 yards and five touchdowns last season.
9:30 p.m. update: The Dolphins signed South Dakota offensive tackle Alex Jensen.
Jensen, who is 6-7 and 290, started at left tackle the past two seasons.
9 p.m.: The Dolphins added former Miami Hurricanes linebacker Mitchell Agude, a source confirmed. He had 39 tackles (including seven for loss) and four sacks last season in his only season playing for UM.
He played his first two seasons at UCLA and had 14.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 18 games for the Bruins.
In signing Agude, who is 6-4 and 245 pounds, the Dolphins have added UM edge players after the draft two consecutive years. They signed Deandre Johnson after the draft last season but he did not make the 53-man roster or practice squad.
And the Dolphins drafted Jaelan Phillips out of UM two years ago. So that’s three straight years that the Dolphins have added a Canes pass rusher in the draft process.
8:35 p.m.: The Dolphins signed Nebraska defensive end Garrett Nelson, who picked Miami over 11 other offers, per a source. We reported last month that he took a 30 visit with the Dolphins.
Nelson, listed at 6-3 and 240 pounds, had 65 tackles (nine for loss) and 5.5 sacks (seventh in the Big 10) in 12 games last season and was second team All Big Ten. In 2021, he had five sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss, which ranked ninth in the Big 10.
8:30 p.m.: The Dolphins signed Stanford cornerback Ethan Bonner and gave him $80,000 guaranteed, according to his agency, OSMG. He had 28 tackles, including three for loss last season. He appeared in 18 games in four seasons at Stanford.
Bonner, 6-1, will be a corner for the Dolphins but also can play safety, according to his agent. He ran a 4.39 in the 40 at his pro day.
7:53 p.m.: The Dolphins added 6-4 325-pound defensive tackle Brandon Pili and gave him $100,000 guaranteed, his agent David Canter said.
He had 10 tackles for loss and four sacks in 40 games at USC. Last season, he had 25, including 2.5 for loss.
He has a decent chance to win a job as a backup nose tackle, a position vacated by the departure of John Jenkins to Las Vegas.
7:52 p.m.: Mississippi State defensive lineman Randy Charlton is signing with the Dolphins, according to a source.
He had 36 tackles, including seven for loss, and four sacks last season. He played three years at UCF and the past two at Mississippi State, where he had four sacks each of the past two seasons. He’s 6-3 and 265 pounds.
7:50 p.m.: The Dolphins are signing BYU running back Chris Brooks and Western Kentucky receiver Daewood Davis, per sources.
Brooks, who’s 6-1 and 235 pounds, average 4.5 yards per carry in four years at Cal (382 carries) and 6.5 in one season at BYU (130 carries), scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 60 passes for 443 yards and seven touchdowns in his college career.
Davis, 6-2, had 63 catches for 872 yards and seven touchdowns for the Hilltoppers last year. He attended Somerset Academy in Fort Lauderdale.
7:48 p.m.: The Dolphins signed Michigan State tackle Jarrett Horst and UCF defensive tackle Anthony Montalvo, sources said.
Horst allowed three sacks in 427 snaps at left tackle for the Spartans last season.
Montalvo, who’s 6-3 and 290 pounds, had 43 tackles and two sacks for UCF last season. He also has 17 career tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries in five seasons at UCF.
7:45 p.m. update: The Dolphins added Oregon safety Bennett Williams, marking the third year in a row that Miami added a Ducks safety. He has eight career interceptions, including two last season.
He had 72 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles last season. Miami gave him $25,000 guaranteed.
7:30 p.m. update: The Dolphins added San Diego State Alama Uluave is signing with Miami, according to a source. He got $65,000 guaranteed, the source said. He was first-team All Mountain West and allowed one sack last season.
7:15 p.m. update: The Dolphins added Illinois State linebacker Ezekiel Vandenburgh and Campbell tight end Julian Hill.
Vandenburgh, who is 6-3 and 235 pounds, had 100 tackles, including 14 sacks, and two forced fumbles last season. He was the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Hill had 38 catches for 659 yards (17.3 average) and five touchdowns last season. At 6-3, Hill is considered a physical and willing blocker. He’s the second tight end added by the Dolphins on Saturday, following the selection of Stanford’s Elijah Higgins in the sixth round. Higgins is converting from receiver to tight end.
7:10 p.m. update: The Dolphins are signing former FSU quarterback James Blackman, per NFL Net. He played four years at FSU, where he had 43 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.
He transferred to Arkansas State after the 2020 season and had eight touchdowns and four interceptions in 2021 and 14 and 3 last season.
He’ll quarterback the team during Miami’s rookie minicamp in two weeks and could compete with front-runner Skylar Thompson for the No. 3 job.
7:05 p.m. update: Jackson State linebacker Aubrey Miller is signing with the Dolphins.
Miller, who is 6-0 and 229 pounds, led the SWAC with 109 tackles in 2021. He had 112 tackles last season, which tied for ninth in FCS and he was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.
“Aubrey is one of the guys that we hang our hats on in the middle of the defense, making calls, getting to the ball, flying around, and really setting the tone and the tempo. Not just on game day, but in practice as well.” said Deion Sanders, who coached him last season.
He previously played sparingly over three seasons at Missouri.
