Miami Dolphins add Dallas Cowboys receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. Here’s what they’re getting
The Dolphins will end up with a Dallas Cowboys receiver after all, but not the one some hoped.
While Amari Cooper ended up with the Cleveland Browns, the Dolphins instead added one of his backups, Cedrick Wilson Jr.
Wilson, who has played three years for the Cowboys, agreed to a three-year, $22.8 million deal, with $12.75 million guaranteed, a league source confirmed.
Wilson caught 45 passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns for Dallas last season in 16 games and four starts. The former sixth-round pick out of Boise State has appeared in 38 NFL games, with four starts.
After sitting out his rookie season with a shoulder injury, he caught five passes for 46 yards as a rookie in 2019, 17 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns in 2020 and then the 45 for 602 and the six touchdowns last season, when he blossomed backing up Cooper, Ceedee Lamb and Michael Gallup.
The 6-2 Wilson is a shifty receiver with good hands and had several good games from the midway point on last season.
Wilson caught a 73-yard touchdown reception in Week 8 against Minnesota, had even catches for 104 yards in Week 12 against Las Vegas and caught five for 119 and two TDs in Week 18 against Dallas.
Wilson, in his three active seasons, has returned 18 punts for 69 yards and three kickoffs for 64 yards. He was a very good returner at Boise State.
Wilson’s addition gives the Dolphins five veteran receivers under contract: DeVante Parker, Jaylen Waddle, Allen Hurns, Lynn Bowden Jr. and Wilson.
Wilson’s father, Cedric Sr., played seven seasons in the NFL for San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
