Panthers get two nationally televised games after best regular season in franchise history
After winning the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time in franchise history last season, the Florida Panthers will get a little bit more national exposure this year.
The key words there are “a little.”
The Panthers will play a pair of games on TNT during the 2022-23 NHL season, which is actually an uptick from a year ago. At the start of the 2021-22 NHL season, Florida didn’t have a single game scheduled to be played on national television, although the NHL later flexed a few games onto national television in the second half of the year.
Both of the Panthers’ nationally televised games will be at FLA Live Arena — or, rather, whatever its name changes to — in October and December. The first is Oct. 19 against the Philadelphia Flyers and the second is Dec. 21 against the New Jersey Devils.
Florida also has five other games slated to air exclusively on ESPN+ and Hulu. Those five are Oct. 21 against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Sunrise, Nov. 3 against the San Jose Sharks in California, Dec. 8 against the Detroit Red Wings at home, Dec. 13 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at home and Dec. 30 against the Carolina Hurricanes in North Carolina.
All other games will air locally on Bally Sports Florida. As of now, the Panthers won’t have any games on ESPN or ABC, although the league tends to flex games later in the season once there’s a better idea of who are the top teams.
South Florida will also get a bit of extra exposure in February, of course. The Panthers are the hosts for the 2023 NHL All-Star Game, which will take over Broward County for a few days in the winter. NHL All-Star events take place Feb. 3 and 4, and will air on ABC.
