Panthers star Jonathan Huberdeau makes NHL All-Star team for second straight season

After a record-setting season, Jonathan Huberdeau once again earned some postseason recognition Tuesday.
For the second straight year, the left wing is a second-team NHL All-Star at the end of the season.
Huberdeau set NHL’s single-season record for assists by a left wing with 85, and set franchise records with his 115 points and 85 assists. The 27-year-old Canadian also finished fifth in voting for the Hart Memorial Trophy after finishing tied for second in the NHL in points and leading the league in assists.
Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews won the Hart Trophy on Tuesday at the NHL Awards. The league also announced its end-of-season All-Star team — its version of an all-league team — at the event.
Last year, Huberdeau became only the fourth Panther to make a postseason NHL All-Star team, joining former goaltenders John Vanbiesbrouck and Roberto Luongo, and former right wing Pavel Bure, who also was a two-time All-Star.
All three of those were second-team All-Stars, too. Florida has never had a first-team All-Star on the league-wide team the NHL announces at the conclusion of each regular season. Calgary Flames star Johnny Gaudreau edged Huberdeau out for the first-team spot at left wing this year.
All-Star teams are determined through media voting. The NHL announces first and second teams.
Still, the All-Star nods are two of the biggest accolades so far in Huberdeau’s career. The forward also won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2013 as the league’s rookie of the year and participated in each of the last two NHL All-Star Games.
The NHL also announced winners of the Vezina Trophy, James Norris Memorial Trophy and Calder Memorial Trophy on Tuesday, and Panthers received votes for both the Norris and Calder trophies.
Aaron Ekblad finished sixth in voting for the Norris despite missing the final six weeks of the regular season with a knee injury and fellow defenseman MacKenzie Weegar finished 14th. In Calder voting, rookie center Anton Lundell finished sixth.
Star center Aleksander Barkov also received votes for the Hart, finishing 15th despite missing 15 games to injury.
