The matchup for Super Bowl will feature the two teams Joe Montana starred for during his Hall of Fame career.

After beating the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the NFC title game 37-20, the 49ers will play the Kansas City Chiefs in two weeks in Miami for the Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs beat the upstart Tennessee Titans 35-24 Sunday in Kansas City, giving head coach Andy Reid his second career Super Bowl berth and first with the Chiefs, who haven’t won an NFL championship since 1969 when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Kansas City, with last season’s MVP Patrick Mahomes under center, entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the AFC with a 12-4 record. They defeated the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round before taking down the Titans, who beat the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens last week as the No. 6 seed.

Mahomes threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Their defense limited star running back Derek Henry to 69 yards and a touchdown.

The Chiefs have made the playoffs six of the last seven seasons, including a loss last season in the conference championship game to the New England Patriots. That was the game, of course, defensive end Dee Ford’s offsides penalty negated an interception on a Patriots’ go-ahead drive late in the game before New England won in overtime.

The 49ers beat the Packers behind four rushing touchdowns from Raheem Mostert and a dominant defensive performance in the first half. The 49ers led 27-0 at halftime as Mostert ran for three scores in the first half.

The trip marks the seventh Super Bowl in San Francisco’s franchise history. Their most recent trip came in Super Bowl XLVII after the 2012 season when they lost in heart breaking fashion to the Baltimore Ravens, 34-31, giving the team its first loss in the NFL’s championship game. A win over the Chiefs would tie the 49ers with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers with the most Super Bowl wins with six.
