Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase, left, and Mike Tannenbaum will pare the Dolphins’ roster from 75 to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday.

The NFL deadline for teams to set their 53-man roster is 4 p.m. Saturday. The Dolphins must waive or release 22 players by that time.

11:53 a.m.: The Dolphins’ cuts have begun. The first name made public: veteran offensive lineman Sam Young. Miami saves $760,000 against the cap by moving on from the former St. Thomas Aquinas standout.

12:23 p.m.: For a few days, Chimdi Chekwa looked like he might win a starting cornerback job. Now he’s just looking for a job. The Dolphins cut the veteran cornerback, who likely became expendable after Xavien Howard got healthy and Chris Culliver signed with the team. Pro Football Talk was the first to report.

12:26 p.m.: The Dolphins need a third tight end. Dominique Jones won’t be it. The journeyman has been released.

12:28 p.m.: Bad news for Chris Jones is great news for Julius Warmsley. The Dolphins have cut Jones, the veteran defensive tackle formerly of the Patriots. Warmsley has outplayed him this preseason.

12:34 p.m.: Cornerback Rashaan Melvin has been let go.

12:48 p.m.: Safety Shamiel Gary played well this summer, but not well enough to make the Dolphins’ 53. He’s been cut, according to his agent David Canter.

12:51 p.m.: More good news for Warmsley’s chances -- DeAndre Coleman has been cut as well, according to a source.

1:02 p.m.: The Dolphins have cut former CFL DE Cleyon Laing, per source, but have shown interest in putting him on practice squad.

1:14 p.m.: Daniel Thomas scored a touchdown and forced a special-teams fumble Thursday night. It wasn’t enough. The Dolphins have parted ways with their former second rounder for the third time in 25 months.

1:21 p.m.: The Dolphins have cut defensive end Jordan Williams. That leaves 12 moves left to make, including placing Chris Culliver on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

1:26 p.m.: Another former Dolphins draft pick has been given his walking papers. This one: Jamil Douglas, a fourth-rounder in 2015. This isn’t a surprise. Douglas was buried in the depth chart in Adam Gase’s first season. Two other cuts: wide receiver Rashawn Scott and linebacker Tyler Gray. The Palm Beach Post first reported Gray’s release.

1:48 p.m.: The Dolphins have shed another backup tackle -- Ulrick John, who spent part of 2015 on the Dolphins’ roster.

1:59 p.m.: Even 2016 draft picks aren’t safe. Thomas Duarte went in the seventh round last spring. Now the UCLA tight end is looking for work. If he clears waviers, expect the Dolphins to put him on the practice squad.

2:09 p.m.: Cornerback Lafayette Pitts has been cut, but the Dolphins requested he stay in town in town. That suggests they’re interested in bringing him back to their practice squad.

2:39 p.m.: The Dolphins might keep three quarterbacks. But it won’t be Zac Dysert. The Dolphins cut Dysert Saturday. Brandon Doughty, the rookie from Western Kentucky, is for now still part of the team.

3:30 p.m.: Miami will receive no compensation for Chris McCain. The Saints cut him Saturday, meaning the condition for sending a sevent-round pick to the Dolphins was not met.

4:16 p.m.: The deadline has come and gone, and so we await the Dolphins’ official cuts list. It appears Jordan Lucas’ name will not be on it. The rookie cornerback had not heard from the club before 4 p.m., a source tells the Miami Herald, a sign that he’s safe. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have waived James Burgess, the Palm Beach Post reports.

4:34 p.m.: Brandon Doughty has made the team (for now). Safety A.J. Hendy, defensive end Cedric Reed and linebacker James-Michael Johnson have not. That’s according to the team, which released its full list of roster moves.

4:54 p.m.: The complete list of Dolphins roster moves Saturday:

The Dolphins waived the following players: LB James Burgess; DT Deandre Coleman; G Jamil Douglas; TE Thomas Duarte; QB Zac Dysert; S Shamiel Gary; LB Tyler Gray; S A.J. Hendy; T Ulrick John; DT Chris Jones; DE Cleyon Laing; CB Rashaan Melvin; CB Lafayette Pitts; DE Cedric Reed; WR Rashawn Scott; DE Jordan Williams.
