Miami Dolphins claim injured corner Ifo Ekpre-Olomu off waivers
Maybe the Dolphins’ offseason plan was to reassemble 2012 Oregon Ducks defense.
They added a third member Tuesday, claiming cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu off waivers. Ekpre-Olomu, waived earlier this week by the Cleveland Browns, will join fellow Oregon teammates Kiko Alonso and Dion Jordan in Miami -- assuming Jordan is reinstated after serving a year-long drug suspension.
Ekpre-Olomu is just 22, but has serious health concerns. He was expected to go in the first or second round of the 2015 draft, but tore his ACL late in the 2014 season. He fell all the way to the seventh round, and the league’s reticence was warranted. He didn’t appear in a game his entire rookie season.
Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that “Ekpre-Olomu feels fine,” citing a source, but that the Browns were alarmed by a recent MRI that suggested he might not be able to hold up physically for an entire season. Ekpre-Olomu has been working out with NFL-caliber players, the report added.
