Sun Life Stadium is bidding to host college football’s championship game following the 2017 season, and four top executives from the College Football Playoff toured the facility on Tuesday and had lunch with community officials in the Dolphins’ locker room.

Gov. Rick Scott and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez were among those at the luncheon. Dolphins president Tom Garfinkel conducted the stadium tour with the CFP contingent, which included executive director Bill Hancock.

College Football Playoff officials are touring more than a half dozen sites that have applied to host the championship games that will follow the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.

The Orange Bowl and Sun Life are bidding for only the January 2018 game because the stadium is focusing on luring the Super Bowl in 2019 and 2020. A decision on the January 2018 title game is expected in November.
