Dolphins offense continues to look out of sync, and other observations
A new offense is being installed, and the quarterbacks and the playmakers are just beginning to develop chemistry, so nobody is on solid footing in the Miami Dolphins’ new offense.
Not even the coaching staff. But the clock on the 2026 season is ticking with training camp is two months away, and Malik Willis and this cast of journeymen and rookie receivers need to speed up their process if the Dolphins plan to have a respectable offense.
During last week’s practice that was opened up to the media the Dolphins offense was picked off three times, and a ton of passes were check-down passes thrown to the tailbacks and tight ends.
That didn’t lead to an impressive showing for offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s unit, and Wednesday’s OTA practice, which was the second of the second week, might have been worse.
While the throws were more aggressive, Willis and rest of Miami’s quarterback had a ton of overthrown passes, making it clear that chemistry with the team’s weaponry is an issue.
Wednesday’s showing from the offense was so bad Willis didn’t complete a pass longer than 15-yards until tight end Greg Dulcich pulled down a 15 yard reception over the middle of the field with Jordyn Brooks draped on him before falling to the turf.
Speaking of Brooks, the second play of 7-on-7 featured him laying out Jaylen Wright with a physical hit that capped a short reception.
The best quarterback of Wednesday’s session was Quinn Ewers, the former Texas standout, who threaded seem pass to tight end Ben Sims, who ran it all the way to the end zone during the first 7-on-7 series.
Cornerback Juju Brents broke up a pass to Terrace Marshall Jr..... Safety Lonnie Johnson had a nice breakup on a deep pass to rookie tight end Seydou Traore.
The top highlight of Wednesday’s OTA session was rookie safety Louis Moore pulled down a pick-six interception from Cam Miller during 7-on-7 work.
The quarterbacks were under pressure most of the day, especially during the 11-on-11 period.
Willis with an overthrow to Jalen Tolbert on a pass that Chop Robinson would have drawn holding penalty on Kion Smith. On the very next play Robinson beat Smith for a sack on Willis. Josh Uche also produced a sack on Willis while working against Patrick Paul.
David Ojabo recorded a would-be sack during the final 11-on-11 period, easily beating Carter Warren, and Willie Gay Jr sacked Cam Miller, one of the three backup quarterbacks.
Ethan Bonner forced Dulcich to fumble, and rookie linebacker Trey Moore recovered it for the defense.
Rookie receiver Donavan McCulley with a nice 20 yard reception over the middle of the field from Ewers, which is having a good day. That was his third impressive day.....
Rookie receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. showcased nice speed on a punt return. However, he dropped a kickoff return and got scolded by the special teams coordinator Chris Tabor.....
Tutu Atwell also dropped a punt.
Injury Updates
Head coach Jeff Hafley clarified that tailback De’Von Achane, offensive tackle Austin Jackson and cornerback Storm Duck each had offseason procedures to clean up the injuries they suffered in 2025.
Achane had his shoulder cleaned up, and has been limited to conditioning work in the OTA sessions he’s participated in.
Jackson had the foot injury that forced him to miss half the season operated on again after the season, and Hafley praised him for playing through pain when he returned.
Duck, who suffered a season-ending knee injury, had a second procedure, according to Hafley.
While Jackson is sidelined the Dolphins won’t have rookie offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor filling in for him at right tackle because the coaches want him to become comfortable at left guard, the position he’s projected to start.....
Tahj Washington, who seemingly an undisclosed injury last week, was doing a rehab assignment on Wednesday....
Aaron Brewer, the Dolphins’ starting center the past two seasons, was not present during Wednesday’s practice, which means Andrew Meyer and Jim Bonifas, an undrafted rookie from Iowa State, handled the snapping.
