Former Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa signs with Falcons, reports say
That didn’t take long.
Just hours after his release from the Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple reports. The quarterback will now have a chance to compete with Michael Penix Jr. for the starting role.
Tagovailoa had the worst year of his career in 2025. Through 14 games, he completed roughly 68% of his passes for 2,660 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also tossed 15 interceptions, the second-highest mark in the NFL, and Miami finished 6-8 with him at the helm before being benched in favor of rookie signal caller Quinn Ewers.
The irony: Tagovailoa had arguably his best game against the Falcons, completing 77% of his passes and throwing just six incompletions as he threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns en route to the 34-10 victory.
During his six-year stint in Miami, Tagovailoa fashioned himself into one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL, even leading the league in completion percentage (72.9%) in 2024 and passing yards (4,624) in 2023. Unfortunately, injuries played a major part of his NFL career as he missed more than a dozen games during his time in Miami.
Still, the one-time Pro Bowler managed to be one of the most prolific passers in franchise history, throwing for 18,166 yards, 120 touchdowns and just 50 interceptions.
