Dolphins make three roster moves in advance of Steelers game

Linebacker Quinton Bell, who received significant playing time for the Dolphins in 2024, moved to Miami’s 53-man roster for the first time this season on Monday.

The Dolphins signed Bell, who had used his maximum three practice squad elevations, and released linebacker Andre Carter II, who was poached off the Lions practice squad on Nov. 5 but did not appear in a game for Miami.

The Dolphins also elevated guard/tackle Kion Smith for Monday’s game at Pittsburgh. Larry Borom, the Dolphins No. 3 tackle, is questionable for the game because of an illness.

Bell, who has spent three years in the Dolphins organization, played 30 defensive snaps and 45 special teams snaps in three games earlier this season, as a practice squad elevation.

Last season, he played 257 defensive snaps for Miami, appearing in all 17 games and starting three. He had 27 tackles and a sack for the Dolphins last year.

Bell joins Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Cameron Goode and Matthew Judon as outside linebackers on Miami’s roster.

Also Monday, the Dolphins opted not to activate center Andrew Meyer off injured reserve; they ruled him out for the game.

The Dolphins have until Dec. 31 to activate Meyer, who was impressive during training camp before a triceps injury landed him on IR on Aug. 27.

The Dolphins listed one player as doubtful for Monday’s game -- safety Elijah Campbell, who has knee and ankle injuries.

Here’s my Monday piece on changes that Mike McDaniel has made.

Here’s my Sunday night piece with information on what the Dolphins must do to make the playoffs.
