The Dolphins defense has struggled for most of the 2025 season, but they have been tightening the screws on one of the NFL’s worst defense the past few weeks. Miami began Sunday’s game preventing the Falcons from converting a first down on four consesutive third down opportunities.
Tagovailoa to Waddle
Tagovailoa extended the Dolphins’ lead to 24-3 on a terrific crossing pattern to Waddle, who ran 33 yards to complete a 43-yard scoring play. That gave him a 138.1 passer rating.
Robinson held in check
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson entered averaging 152.3 yards from scrimmage, the most in the league. But had only 21 through early in the third quarter - two yards receiving on one catch and 19 yards rushing on seven carries. Then Robinson fumbled and Tyrel Dodson recovered deep in Dolphins’ territory.
Meanwhile, his tag-team partner, Tyler Allgeier, had minus four yards on two carries.
The Dolphins forced the Falcons to go three and out on four of their first five possessions.
Alec Ingold battling injury
Starting fullback Alec Ingold, who was supposed to inherit a larger workload with Darren Waller (pectoral) and Julian Hill (ankle) sidelined by injury, suffered an undisclosed injury in the first quarter that could alter Miami’s playcalling. However, he returned to the field in the second half and caught a pass in that quarter.
Phins strike first
The Dolphins’ De’Von Achane walked into the end zone untouched after a simple pitch and catch from Tua Tagovailoa.
Phins up 7-0.
Ashtyn Davis injury
The starting safety sustained a quad injury on the Dolphins’ opening defensive series.
He’s questionable to return.
FRANK SMITH MOVE
Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith is moving from the booth to field level, NFL Network reported before kickoff. Also, Tua Tagovailoa was told this week to stop thinking and just play and the team practiced playing up tempo more.
TUA WITH EYE ISSUE
The Dolphins told rights-holder CBS that Tua Tagovailoa’s illness is a swollen eye. He woke up with swelling in his left eye and wore sunglasses during warmups. He will wear a visor during the game for the first time in his career.
INACTIVES:
Journeyman quarterback Zach Wilson will remain Tua Tagovailoa’s back-up, according to the Miami Dolphins.
The team posted its inactives prior to Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons and listed rookie signal caller Quinn Ewers as the emergency third quarterback.
Other inactives included defensive back Elijah Campbell, cornerback JuJu Brents, safety Jordan Colbert, wide receiver Tahj Washington, tight end Julian Hill and defensive tackle Zeek Biggers.
Tua Tagovailoa hit with a sickness, still expected to play:
The franchise quarterback was added to the injury report Sunday morning due to an illness
It’s unclear what happened, however, Tagovailoa “is expected to start,” per the team.
