Dolphins’ McDaniel updates injuries, explains Dolphins’ trade deadline approach

In the wake of trading Jaelan Phillips to Philadelphia, the Dolphins aren’t sure if they will have outside linebacker Chop Robinson available for Sunday’s home game against Buffalo (1 p.m., CBS).

Robinson remains in the early stages of concussion protocol and isn’t expected to practice on Wednesday. But he is making progress, McDaniel said.

As far as a timetable for a return, “your guess is as good as mine,” McDaniel said. “I’m worried about him getting back to full steam ahead.”

Robinson, who sustained the concussion during last Thursday’s loss to Baltimore, is expected to play more once he’s healthy.

For now, the Dolphins have three healthy edge players on their roster: Bradley Chubb, Matthew Judon and Cameron Goode. [Update: Shortly after McDaniel’s news conference, Miami announced it has poached outside linebacker Andre Carter II from Detroit’s practice squad. Read more about him here.]

“We have some depth at the position as far as guys being able to execute what we want done,” McDaniel said, noting that Judon “and the other guys” can “fill in some of the gaps.”

Meanwhile, offensive linemen James Daniels, Andrew Meyer and Austin Jackson and kicker Jason Sanders -- who are all eligible to return off injures reserve -- are not ready to return and will not begin their practice window this week. Once those players begin practicing, the Dolphins will have 21 days to activate each of them.

Meanwhile, McDaniel addressed the Dolphins deciding to make only one trade before the trade deadline (a deal that sent Phillips to Philadelphia for a third-round pick).

Asked who in the organization was involved in trade deadline decisions, McDaniel mentioned himself, interim GM Champ Kelly and team executive Brandon Shore and said they were “communicating with ownership directly” before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

“There was nothing that moved the needle for us to change our roster beyond what we’ve done,” McDaniel said.

NFL Network reported that other teams did not meet the Dolphins’ high asking price for Chubb and receiver Jaylen Waddle.
