Jaylen Wright, Jordyn Brooks among those hobbled during Dolphins’ joint practice
The Miami Dolphins’ final preseason practice proved to be a tough one on the injury front.
During Thursday’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars in Miami Gardens, the Dolphins lost running back Jaylen Wright, linebacker Jordyn Brooks and wide receiver AJ Henning to apparent injuries. Details on their injuries weren’t immediately known.
Wright limped into the Baptist Health facility attached to the team’s practice complex for further evaluation after sustaining an apparent lower body injury midway through the session. He was scheduled to speak to reporters following Thursday’s practice, but the injury changed those plans and he did not speak to reporters.
If Wright is forced to miss time, the Dolphins would be left with just three healthy running backs on their roster — rookie Ollie Gordon Jr., Mike Boone and Aaron Shampklin. Boone and Shampklin were just recently signed.
The Dolphins previously lost running back Alexander Mattison for the season because of a neck injury. In addition, Dolphins starting running back De’Von Achane remains sidelined with a calf issue and there’s still no definitive timetable for his return.
Brooks, who is one of the Dolphins’ starting linebackers, also appeared to be favoring his lower body after being injured toward the end of Thursday’s practice. Brooks waved off a cart and stayed on the field until the end of practice, but he walked off with a noticeable limp.
Henning, a rookie wide receiver who is competing for a spot on the Dolphin’s roster, was carted off the field before using crutches to hobble into the Baptist Health facility. He was initially holding his hamstring after leaving the field.
Among those on the Dolphins’ roster who didn’t practice Thursday were Achane, wide receiver Tyreek Hill (oblique); rookie defensive lineman Kenneth Grant (undisclosed injury; Mike McDaniel said it’s not serious and he’s day-to-day); cornerbacks Kendall Sheffield (soft tissue injury; could miss a week), Ashtyn Davis (left foot) and Ethan Bonner (hamstring); and offensive linemen Andrew Meyer (left elbow) and Bayron Matos (above the shoulder injury) and Austin Jackson (left foot).
The Dolphins close their three-game preseason schedule on Saturday against the Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium.
