Dolphins’ McDaniel addresses Crow situation, injury issues. Three miss practice

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that senior defensive assistant Sean Ryan will coach the team’s outside linebackers while Ryan Crow remains on administrative leave following his arrest on a battery charge.

“He has been placed on leave indefinitely,” McDaniel said Monday of Crow. “Allegations we take extremely serious. Organization standpoint, from guilty all the way to innocent, rule No. 1 for our team is protect the team. And that one was violated.”

Crow was released on a $1,000 bond on Saturday, less than a day after he was arrested in Fort Lauderdale and charged with one count of domestic violence battery. As a condition of pretrial release, Broward County Court Judge Lauren Peffer said Crow must undergo a substance abuse evaluation within 10 days and comply with any recommendations. He also must refrain from alcohol and intoxicants and subject himself to random alcohol testing.

He is prohibited from contacting his girlfriend, who looked “terrified” when police arrived, according to the police report.

According to the report, Crow — who is married and separated — and his girlfriend attended a “work party” on Thursday night, and she felt neglected by Dolphins employees and their wives.

Crow’s girlfriend told police that Crow shoved her during an argument about his relationship with his wife. The confrontation continued when they returned home, two witnesses told police.

Just after midnight Friday, Fort Lauderdale police officers were sent to the 200 block of South Federal Highway to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance. Crow was arrested and spent Friday night in jail.

“Witness 1 stated he observed Defendant with his arms around the victim as if he was going to perform a takedown. Witness further stated that the victim’s legs were off the ground and Defendant was whispering things into her ear. Victim looked terrified,” according to the report.

A second witness said they saw Crow “throwing slaps and trying to grapple the victim,” according to the affidavit.

On Friday, the Dolphins said: “We are aware of the serious matter involving Ryan Crow and currently gathering more information. Ryan has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately. We have been in communication with the NFL and will reserve further comment at this time.”

Crow joined the Dolphins as outside linebackers coach in 2024. Prior to that, he spent six seasons (2018-23) with the Tennessee Titans.

As for Ryan, “we felt very fortunate to have him in the room the past year and a half,” McDaniel said. “You feel fortunate to have someone who led a position room for multiple years. Feel very fortunate to have an established relationship with the guys. They were very excited for the opportunity to be led by him.”

The 2025 season is Ryan’s 18th in the NFL. He won Super Bowls 42 and 46 as a member of the New York Giants coaching staff.

In 2024, Ryan joined the defensive staff under first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver after spending the majority of his coaching career in offensive roles.

Ryan has worked in numerous jobs, including serving as quarterback coach for the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.
