Live updates: Here are all the Dolphins’ cuts and roster moves
After releasing at least 13 players on Monday, the Dolphins signed veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas and continued releasing players Tuesday, with teams required to be at the 53-player limit by 4 p.m.
Keep checking back all day for updates, which we will add at the top:
The Dolphins finalized their 53-man roster by announcing a few things that were unresolved: Linebacker Channing Tindall, cornerback Kendall Sheffield, offensive lineman Bayron Matos and tight end Hayden Rucci were released...
Kicker Jason Sanders joins Andrew Meyer as the two Dolphins who were placed on injured reserve with a designation to return; they were not required to count toward the 53-man roster.. Both can return after Week 4 if they’re healthy...
Cornerback Cam Smith, who was not seen at practice, is on the initial 53-man roster...
Offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg remains on the PUP list. He is eligible to return after four games if he’s ready.
Cornerback Rasul Douglas’ addition has not been announced; that would seemingly leave either Isaiah Johnson or Ethan Bonner at risk. Both made the initial 53-man roster. Bonner is out indefinitely with a hamstring injury, so one option would be moving him to injured reserve. Because he’s on the 53-man roster, he would be eligible to return after Week 4 if he’s placed on IR.
For the moment, the cornerbacks on the 53 are Bonner, Jack Jones, Isaiah Johnson, Cam Smith, Storm Duck and Jason Marshall.
Like Bonner, safety Ashtyn Davis also can be moved to IR and be eligible to return after Week 4 because he also made the initial 53-man roster. The other safeties on the team: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ifeatu Melifonwu, Elijah Campbell, Dante Trader Jr. and Jordan Colbert.
Perhaps the most improbable player to make the initial 53-man roster: Matthew Butler, who joins Zach Sieler, Benito Jones, Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers defensive linemen on the 53...
The Dolphins’ three backup offensive linemen, at the moment, are Kion Smith, Larry Borom and Daniel Brunskill.
Here are all the transactions today:
The Miami Dolphins announced today that they have released cornerback Cornell Armstrong, linebacker Quinton Bell, running back Mike Boone, tight end Pharaoh Brown, tackle Jackson Carman, cornerback Cameron Dantzler Sr., defensive tackle Matt Dickerson, cornerback Mike Hilton, tight end Chris Myarick and cornerback Kendall Sheffield.
The team also waived cornerback BJ Adams, wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, offensive lineman Mason Brooks, offensive lineman Braeden Daniels, wide receiver Erik Ezukanma, tackle Ryan Hayes, wide receiver AJ Henning, defensive tackle Alex Huntley, linebacker Dequan Jackson, linebacker Mohamed Kamara, offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie, linebacker Derrick McLendon, safety Patrick McMorris, linebacker Grayson Murphy, offensive lineman Josh Priebe, cornerback Ethan Robinson, tight end Hayden Rucci, safety John Saunders Jr., running back Aaron Shampklin, defensive tackle Ben Stille, linebacker Channing Tindall, wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. and offensive lineman Addison West; waived/injured tackle Bayron Matos, and waived/injury settlement linebacker Eugene Asante.
Additionally, the Dolphins moved offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg to the reserve/physically unable to perform list and placed offensive lineman Andrew Meyer and kicker Jason Sanders on the injured reserve list. The team listed Meyer and Sanders as designated for return.
▪ The Dolphins have released edge player Mo Kamara just a year after drafting him in the fifth round, according to a source.
That means Miami, for now, appears to be keeping five outside linebackers: Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Matthew Judon and Cameron Goode.
Kamara had a nondescript preseason and missed some time while in concussion protocol. He played 26 defensive snaps and 30 special teams snaps in five games as rookie last season. He had 30.5 sacks in 49 games at Colorado State.
▪ The Dolphins have released cornerback Cornell Armstrong, defensive lineman Alex Huntley, linebacker Dequan Jackson and offensive linemen Ryan Hayes, Braeden Daniels and Josh Priebe, according to multiple sources. None were at practice Tuesday afternoon.
Also missing during Tuesday’s practice: cornerbacks Cam Smith (whose status wasn’t immediately known; he is currently without an agent, according to the player’s union) and Kendall Sheffeld, tight end Hayden Rucci and linebacker Channing Tindall, whose status wasn’t immediately known. Tindall sustained an injury late in Saturday’s preseason game.
Among bubble players who practiced with the team on Tuesday, suggesting they will be kept around: cornerback Isaiah Johnson; offensive linemen Daniel Brunskill and Kion Smith; receivers Tahj Washington and Dee Eskridge; tight end Tanner Conner; safety Jordan Colbert and defensive lineman Matthew Butler.
Players with known injuries who did not practice besides Sheffield and Tindall: De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, Tyreek Hill, Austin Jackson, Liam Eichenberg and Ethan Bonner. Injured safeties Ashtyn Davis and Dante Trader Jr. worked on the side. Tight end Darren Waller, off the physically unable to perform list, did not practice either.
▪ The Dolphins worked out former Sunset High and UF kicker Eddy Pineiro but did not offer him a contract after the audition. Pineiro connected on 22 of 26 field goals for Carolina last season. Per a source, the Dolphins are interested in signing kicker Riley Patterson. Here’s more on that.
Jason Sanders is expected to miss four or five weeks with a hip injury, per ESPN. The Dolphins also auditioned veteran kickers Greg Joseph and Zane Gonzalez, per a source.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins reached an injury settlement with Eugene Asante and the undrafted linebacker will move on. Asante showed good athleticism in camp but was injured late in the third preseason game.
He was competing with Channing Tindall (and to a lesser extent, Dequan Jackson) for the fifth inside linebacker job, if the Dolphins keep five.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins conveyed that they intend to place center Andrew Meyer on injured reserve with a designation to return. He was Miami’s best backup offensive lineman in camp before his August injury. Mike McDaniel said a couple of weeks ago that he was not close to returning.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins released rookie cornerback BJ Adams, the former UCF player who flashed during training camp. As it turned out, neither of the team’s undrafted cornerbacks (Adams or Ethan Robinson) made the team’s 53-man roster.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins released edge rusher Grayson Murphy, who impressed as a pass rusher throughout training camp. Teammate Jaelan Phillips called Murphy probably the best pure pass rusher on the team. The Dolphins have interest in signing Murphy to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
His departure leaves Miami with six outside linebackers: Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Matthew Judon, Cameron Goode and Mo Kamara. [Update: Kamara was released later in the day]. Also, inside linebacker Willie Gay Jr. can play some outside linebacker, the team has said.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins released safety John Saunders Jr., who had an interception in the preseason finale and had earned a reputation as a ball-hawk. He had three interceptions and four forced fumbles at Mississippi last season. Miami hopes to add him to the practice squad if he doesn’t get claimed off waivers.
Jordan Colbert appears to have beaten out Saunders and Patrick McMorris for a backup safety job.
▪ Per a source, the Dolphins released wide receiver Andrew Armstrong, leaving Miami (for now) with six at the position — Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Malik Washington, Dee Eskridge and Tahj Washington.
The Dolphins ended up releasing the two ballyhooed rookie receivers who each received $234,000 in guaranteed money after the draft — Armstrong and Theo Wease Jr.
▪ The Dolphins released veteran receiver Erik Ezukanma, as ESPN reported. The former fourth-round pick appeared in just five games for the Dolphins over three seasons and had five catches for 22 yards and played just 57 offensive snaps. He spent most of last season on the practice squad.
▪ A source said the Dolphins released safety Patrick McMorris, the team’s sixth-round pick a year ago. Miami has expressed interest in re-signing him to the practice squad.
▪ The Dolphins released receiver Theo Wease, the undrafted rookie who received $234,000 guaranteed. Wease had a strong camp, but there wasn’t room for him on the 53 behind Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Malik Washington and Dee Eskridge. The Dolphins must decide whether to keep Tahj Washington as a sixth receiver.
▪ The Dolphins released outside linebacker Derrick McLendon, a standout during training camp. McLendon had two sacks in preseason games and a handful in practices and hoped to make the team after spending last season on the practice squad.
For now, that leaves Cameron Goode and Mo Kamara as Miami’s outside linebackers behind Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson and Matthew Judon.
▪ The Dolphins released veteran defensive tackle Matt Dickerson, according to a source. He had a strong camp but got caught up in a numbers game.
Miami drafted three defensive linemen (Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers) to join a room with Zach Sieler and Benito Jones. Matthew Butler also has made a strong push for a roster spot.
Dickerson appeared in four games for the Dolphins last season and logged 15 defensive snaps.
▪ The Dolphins released veteran outside linebacker Quinton Bell, who had 27 tackles (including three for loss) and a sack in 17 games and three starts last season. He played 257 defensive snaps for Miami in 2024.
