Live blog: What’s happening at the Dolphins-Lions practice. Dolphins look bad

News, notes and observations from the Dolphins’ joint practice in Detroit on Wednesday: (Keep checking back for updates at the top.)

12:30 update: Three Michigan-based writers, including two Lions beat writers, crucified Miami’s performance afterward. Said A to Z’s Mike Payton: “Either the Dolphins are really bad or the Lions are just a juggernaut.”

The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner said: “As lopsided a joint NFL practice as I’ve ever seen.”

12:25 p.m update: Practice ended with a small skirmish; the Detroit News identified Dolphins (and former Lions) safety Ifeatu Melifonwu and Lions receiver Jameson Williams as the participants.

12:20 p.m. update: Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown beat Dolphins cornerback Cornell Armstrong for a 20-yard gain on another nifty throw from Jared Goff... Goff then hit tight end Brock Wright for a 7-yard gain and Ronnie Bell for a -yard gain, as Detroit marched down the field... Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks was called for defensive holding... Ethan Bonner had great coverage on Goff’s throw to Jameson Williams, who caught it 3 yards out of bounds at the conclusion of practice.

12:10 update: Zach Wilson’s throw to Tarik Black drew a pass interference penalty on the Lions’ Erick Hallett... A situational period began with consecutive receptions by tight end Julian Hill for short gains... The Dolphins then committed a false start penalty; there have been too many of those during this training camp.... Detroit safety Kerby Joseph broke up a pass to Dee Eskridge.... Tagovailoa threw high to Jaylen Wright on fourth down, ending a Dolphins possession.

Noon update: The Lions sacked Tua Tagovailoa twice in two minutes of real time. Dolphins quarterbacks have been forced to scramble all day... On the other field, Minkah Fitzpatrick broke up a Goff pass. Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 10 yards, but the Dolphins stopped David Montgomery after a short run...

Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks then had a great open-field tackle on Montgomery, who was held to a short gain on a swing route.. Detroit’s Ronnie Bell gained 6 yards on a run before being stopped by Brooks and Tyrel Dodson...

11:55 update: New Dolphins running back Mike Boone fumbled in the red zone.

11:49 update: Even more red-zone work: Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright scored a 5-yard touchdown, but the next red-zone session ended with the Lions sacking Tagovailoa... On defense, cornerback Cam Smith stopped Lions receiver Isaac TeSlaa after a 5-yard gain... Dolphins linebacker Grayson Murphy had a tackle for loss on Lions running back Deon Jackson....

On the other field, Wilson hit tight end Tanner Conner for a touchdown and then hit Black for a touchdown.. Erik Ezukanma dropped a potential TD from Wilson.

11:46 update: More red-zone work: Lions star receiver St. Brown had a nice one-handed catch on Dolphins rookie cornerback Jason Marshall Jr., who had tight coverage. It was a perfect throw from Goff, who was very sharp Wednesday. Brown then punted the ball in the air after scoring...Brown then scored another touchdown, against Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones, from 5 yards out....

Montgomery scored on a 5-yard TD run, and Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones — for the second time — took issue with Detroit players. There was a lot of pushing and shoving but no punches thrown.

11:40 update: From red-zone drills: Jaylen Waddle took a screen pass from Tagovailoa and ran it in for a touchdown... Goff hit Williams for a 20-yard TD, with Kendall Sheffield in coverage... Brooks stopped Lions running back Gibbs at the line of scrimmage, then forced an incomplete pass to tight end Sam LaPorta...

Brooks and linebacker Dodson then combined to stop Montgomery for a short gain.. Gibbs scored on a 6-yard TD run... Jones is chirping at the Lions offensive line; Brooks came over to grab Jones and settle him down.

11:33 update: Jones broke up a Hendon Hooker pass to Lions receiver Kalif Reynolds. Detroit was called for a false start on the play... Goode then sacked Hooker... Dolphins cornerback Isaiah Johnson had a good open field tackle on Lions tight end Zach Horton.

On the other field, Eskridge made a nice catch on a Tagovailoa throw. The Lions got the better of that Dolphins possession... After Wilson entered, Detroit’s Roy Lopez immediately sacked him. Wilson then overthrew Eskridge and underthrew Black... The Lions forced Dolphins quarterbacks out of the pocket on multiple occasions.

11:25 update: LaPorta made a leaping 20-yard catch with Brooks in coverage... Goff hit Lions receivers St. Brown, beating Duck for 10 yards.... Goff then found Kalif Reynolds for 15 yards on the sideline and hit St. Brown for 20... Zach Sieler then sacked Goff. Finally, a good defensive play!

11:20 update: Miami’s De’Von Achane had a significant gain on a run that featured some misdirection... Dolphins cornerback Jones, who was torched in 1-on-1 drills, had an excellent tackle for loss on Lions running back Craig Reynolds....Reynolds responded with a 20-yard run up the middle...

Wilson missed a wide-open Ezukanma but delivered a strong throw to tight end Pharoah Brown... Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and safety Trader were called for unnecessary roughness during simultaneous action on the other field.

11:15 p.m.: The Dolphins’ Chop Robinson was carted off the field with an undisclosed injury. [Update: Robinson announced he’s good and it’s nothing serious.]

11:10 update: All this is 11-on-11 work: Goff connected with St. Brown for 15 yards, beating Ethan Bonner. Gibbs then bolted for 10 yards.... Brooks forced a fumble by Lions running back Montgomery, who recovered it.

11:07 update: Dolphins linebackers Derrick McLendon, Quinton Bell and Murphy easily won their 1-on-1 reps against Lions offensive linemen.... Robinson lost another rep against Penei Sewell.

11:06 update: More 7-on-7 work: Lions Pro Bowl receiver Amon St. Brown beat Dolphins cornerback Cornell Armstrong for a long touchdown. ... Tagovailoa threw a pass that tight end Julian Hill dropped and then overthrew receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine in 7 on 7s... Zach Wilson, shaking off the two interceptions, completed two downfield passes, including one to rookie AJ Henning... Dee Eskridge and Malik Washington both had receptions.

11:05 a.m. update: More 1 on 1 work: Dolphins rookie defensive lineman Kenneth Grant drove back Lions rookie lineman Tate Ratledge. But Lions Pro Bowl offensive lineman Penei Sewell easily handled Dolphins edge rusher Chop Robinson in their duel.

11:03 update: Zach Wilson was intercepted twice in 7 on 7 drills. One was a batted pass that went straight in the air; the other was underthrown and Detroit’s Nick Whiteside jumped to snag it.

11 a.m. update: In 7 on 7 action, Dolphins linebacker Willie Gay and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick stopped Lions tight end Sam LaPorta for a short gain... Tua Tagovailoa connected with De’Von Achane on the sideline for a decent gain.

10:55 a.m. update: St. Brown torched Jones in 1-on-1 matchups involving a quarterback, receiver and defensive back. Then St. Brown made a sideline catch against Jones and then beat Jones deep. What a debacle for Jones on that sequence.

Dolphins tight end Julian Hill beat Detroit’s Grant Stuard — who talked some smack about the Dolphins this week — over the top in 1-on-1 drills....

Rookie cornerback Jason Marshall Jr., who didn’t allow a completion on either target against him in the Chicago game, had excellent coverage on Lions receiver Ronnie Bell.

10:50 a.m update.: Several Dolphins aren’t practicing — linebackers Jaelan Phillips (undisclosed; Dolphins have suggested it isn’t serious) and Mo Kamara (concussion protocol); right tackle Austin Jackson (lower leg; expected back by Sept. 7 opener at Colts); safety Ashtyn Davis (out indefinitely with a leg injury); fullback Alec Ingold (concussion protocol) and offensive linemen Andrew Meyer (not close to returning) and Kion Smith (undisclosed) and Bayron Matos.
