Dolphins cut practice squad linebacker, sign quarterback
The Miami Dolphins announced two roster moves late Wednesday afternoon.
Quarterback Brett Gabbert was signed at the expense of linebacker William Bradley-King, who was subsequently cut, according to the Dolphins.
Bradley-King’s short stint in Miami was spent on the 2024 Dolphins’ practice squad. He played in four games with the Washington Commanders in 2021 and 2022, recording seven total tackles and a half sack. His 2023 season was primarily spent on the Commanders’ practice squad.
An undrafted free agent out of Miami (Ohio) University, Gabbert joined the Dolphins during the 2025 offseason. The 24-year-old’s claim to fame is more than just being the younger brother of NFL veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert; he was featured on college football insider Bruce Feldman’s 2024 “Freak List” following a horrific leg injury that could have ended his career.
“I felt my fibula go first,” Gabbert recalled to Feldman. “It sounds gross, but you can obviously feel and you can hear it. Then felt my tibia go, and that doesn’t feel great. I just remember throwing my helmet off and waving to the sideline just to have them come out there and cover it up because obviously the bone was sticking out.”
Gabbert broke his leg in October 2023. By September 2024, he had started the season opener. Even more impressive: this was the second time Gabbert had overcome a significant injury as he broke his collarbone in 2022.
“The kid is so competitive, driven, committed,” Miami coach Chuck Martin told Feldman. “He does everything right all the time. He’s like a machine. And it’s not just how he comes back from these major injuries multiple times. He’ll stand in the pocket and he’ll take a hit. His willingness to sacrifice for the team. He plays with no fear.”
Gabbert started 53 games across his six seasons at Miami. He completed roughly 59% of his passes for 10,814 yards and 80 touchdowns. Despite his 30 interceptions, Gabbert’s passing yards and touchdowns rank third and second, respectively, among RedHawks quarterbacks.
With Gabbert officially signed, the Dolphins now have four quarterbacks on the roster including Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers.
