Dolphins will have joint practice with Jaguars, No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter
Tyreek Hill vs. Travis Hunter — get the popcorn ready!
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen revealed Monday that the team will have a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins prior to their preseason finale, according to News4Jax sports anchor Jamal St. Cyr.
The joint practice will likely be hosted at Baptist Health Training Complex as both team’s final preseason game will occur at Hard Rock Stadium. A date and time for the game as well as the practice have yet to be announced.
Jacksonville was just one of the Dolphins’ three preseason opponents when the schedule dropped May 14. The other two games — both of which are away — will be against the Chicago Bears followed by the Detroit Lions. Both teams will look to bounce back in 2025 after the NFC No. 1 seed Lions got bounced early in the playoffs and the Bears hired a new coach in Ben Johnson, Detroit’s former offensive coordinator.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, for one, is huge fan of joint practices. Not only does it allow both teams to gauge where they’re at, it gives starters the opportunity to go head-to-head for a little taste of game action.
“You sign up in a joint practice if you have relationships with head coaches, you can kind of forecast what they’re trying to get out of practice,” McDaniel said in mid-August. “I think it’s important that you can kind of find different teams you kind of see practice the same way so that you have the tempo similar so that you can push guys in the right way but it can be organized, constructive work as opposed to who wins each and every play.”
The 2025 joint practice between the Jags and Fins should be no different. Not only will the Jaguars be in search of some revenge after the Dolphins’ walk-off 20-17 victory in 2024, the practice will feature Hunter who plans to play both wide receiver and cornerback. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 draft, Hunter will surely have his work cut out for him against Hill, one of the best receivers in the league who will be extra motivated this season following a disappointing 2024.
Dolphins fans should just pray this joint practice goes a lot smoother than the 2024 iteration against the Washington Commanders. Not only did fans get the first inkling that quarterback Jayden Daniels might be elite as he destroyed the Dolphins’ red zone defense, Hill suffered a wrist injury that hindered him all season.
