Bradley Chubb, Terron Armstead’s restructures gives Dolphins $30+ million in cap space
Edge rusher Bradley Chubb and the Miami Dolphins has revised his contract to make it more an incentive-heavy, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The deal keeps Chubb, who missed the entire 2024 season as he recovered from a knee injury, with the Dolphins through 2025. It’s unclear the exact details of the contract other than he “can earn back his full salary through incentives,” according to Pelissero. Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz added that the new contract reduced his base salary.
Pelissero revealed Friday morning that the restructure gave the Dolphins an additional $16.3 million in cap space. Having done something similar with right tackle Terron Armstead, the Dolphins now have more than $30 million in cap space.
Chubb joined the Dolphins in late 2022 after the Denver Broncos traded him to Miami. The Dolphins promptly signed him to a five-year extension that ran through 2027. He excelled for the rest of the season, even earning his second Pro Bowl in the process.
The 2018 first round pick was likely enroute to a third Pro Bowl selection before he tore his right knee’s anterior cruciate ligament, patella tendon and meniscus late in the fourth quarter of a Week 17 blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Chubb’s injury required a five hour surgical procedure that he later described as one of the most difficult periods of his life.
“Seeing from when I was there to where I am now is nothing short of a blessing,” Chubb said earlier this month, in his only public comments this calendar year. “I’m chopping wood and carrying water every day, continuing to have a positive mind-set.”
