Dolphins hire former Houston Texans offensive coordinator
The Miami Dolphins have hired the Houston Texans’ former offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, reuniting him with his older brother.
According to the NFL Network, Slowik, who was fired earlier this year after two seasons of leading the Texans offense, is being hired as the Dolphins’ senior passing game coordinator.
Slowik worked with Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel during their time together in San Francisco, and Slowik actually served as the 49ers pass game coordinator in 2022, the season after McDaniel left the 49ers to become Miami’s head coach.
Bobby is the brother of Ryan Slowik, the Dolphins defensive backs and pass game specialist, and the son of Bob Slowik, a longtime NFL assistant coach who is presently the defensive coordinator for the Calgary Stampede in the CFL.
Last season the Texans finished 22nd in yards per game (319.7), 15th in rushing yards per game (112.3), and 19th in points per game, scoring 21.9 per contest.
The season before that the Texans ranked 12th in yards per game (342.4), and were tied for 13th in points per game (22.2) with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, Slowik was fired because of the stalled development of second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, and replaced by Nick Caley, a former New England Patriots assistant who spent the past two seasons working his way up the ranked with the Los Angeles Rams.
In San Francisco, Bobby Slowik spent time as an offensive assistant and defensive quality control coach. Before he was hired by the 49ers, Slowik spent three seasons (2011-2013) in Washington as a defensive assistant and video assistant. McDaniel was also part of that Washington staff, so Miami will be the third NFL team they’ve worked together on.
Bobby Slowik is the third known newcomer to McDaniel’s staff.
Dolphins hired former Dallas Cowboys receivers coach Robert Prince as Wes Welker’s replacement after firing the former Dolphins receiver turned position coach.
Miami also hired Craig Aukerman as the new special teams coach, replacing Danny Crossman, who was fired at the end of the 2024 season because of his unit’s struggle the past three years.
