Dolphins’ Chop Robinson chosen for Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team
The Miami Dolphins apparently got their edge rusher of the future in Chop Robinson.
A 2024 first-round pick, Robinson was named to the Professional Football Writers of America All-Rookie team, per the organization.
Although initially thought of as a backup to a premiere edge rusher unit that included Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, injuries gave Robinson more playing time. In just his first year, he had six sacks, which ranked second on the team as well as among all rookies.
“Chop, I think again, the more you play him, he’s going to be efficient at everything — run game, pass game, all of it,” defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said. “I think he’s really gotten to the point where he can do that now.”
Despite a slow start, Robinson finished the 2024 season as the 37th-ranked edge rusher, according to Pro Football Focus. Though Robinson seemingly struggled against the run, the former Penn State outside linebacker rushed the passer like few others. against the pass. He finished ranked 82nd and 18th in those respective areas, per PFF.
“To see him having the success he is now — all the talent was there at the beginning of the year; he’s just starting to put it all together as the games have been going on,” Chubb said Dec. 12. “So it’s been fun to see because he’s like a sponge too. You tell him one thing, he fixes it right away, you know what I mean? He doesn’t let two mistakes roll over. He’s a good, young rookie to have in the room and I’m excited to see his growth.”
Robinson’s other 2024 stats include 26 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss and two pass deflections. With his inclusion on PFWA’s All-Rookie team, it’s safe to say the future is bright for the Miami defensive line. Just the mere idea of the Robinson-Phillips-Chubb trio made Weaver grin from ear to ear.
“You see the smile on my face as soon as you mentioned those three,” Weaver said. “But I think we all have seen, from all three players, what they’re capable of so the idea of having all three of them available and on the field on the same time, I mean you completely opened up Pandora’s box for me and you just start thinking of ways you can use them in multiple positions and really scare and intimidate offenses. So it would certainly be an awesome, I want to say problem, it’s certainly not a problem, but it’d just be a lot of fun to see what we can do with all those three guys.”
