Beloved Dolphins executive Jason Jenkins to posthumously receive award from Pro Football Hall of Fame

Former Miami Dolphins senior vice president Jason Jenkins will posthumously receive the 2025 Award of Excellence from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to ex-NFL executive Joe Browne.

A staple in the press box and South Florida community, Jenkins passed away in August of 2022. The executive had worked for the Dolphins since 2009, beginning as the team’s director of media relations before being selected as senior vice president of communications and community affairs in 2015. Prior to his time in Miami, he began his career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2002.

“Jason Jenkins was an icon in the Miami community, and above all a kind and incredible family man,” owner Stephen M. Ross said in a statement following Jenkins’ passing. “His dedication to our organization was unmatched. He was my friend but most of all he was a generous soul.”

“Jason faithfully served the Dolphins organization for 14 years, was a beacon in the community, a trailblazer and a champion for others, and above all, treated people with a kindness and dignity that left a lasting mark on everyone he met,” CEO Tom Garfinkel said in a statemtent.

Although Jenkins was a friend to the media, arguably his biggest contributions came through his work in the community. He led the Dolphins’ charitable foundation and youth programs. He started the Dolphins’ Football Unites program. And he helped Miami win the NFL’s #Huddlefor100 challenge, ushering almost 90,000 volunteers to take part in 163 events. This was all in addition to his service on many boards including the Anti-Defamation League of Florida, the Dolphins Cancer Challenge, United Way Miami, the Urban League of Broward County and YWCA South Florida.

“Jason was a beacon of the community,” quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said in 2022. “That’s what I think of when I hear of Jason’s name. This guy is always wanting to do stuff for other people.”

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has given out the Award of Excellence since 2022 “ to recognize significant contributors to the game,” per the website. Contributors are separated into five categories — assistant coaches, athletic trainers, equipment managers, public relations personnel and film/video directors — and honored in Canton, Ohio during the summer.
