Campbell neck issue puts status in question. Tagovailoa doubtful, six Dolphins questionable
Calais Campbell popped up on the Dolphins’ injury report on Friday with a neck issue that has left him questionable for Sunday’s game at the Jets.
While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is doubtful for the game and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. is out as expected, the Dolphins are listing six players as questionable: Campbell, left tackle Terron Armstead (knee), receiver Tyreek Hill (wrist/illness), receiver Jaylen Waddle (knee), receiver Dee Eskridge (finger) and safety Jevon Holland (wrist).
It’s unclear whether Campbell sustained the injury early in practice Friday; he was listed as a limited participant because of the neck.
Hill missed Friday’s practice with an illness but usually plays when he’s listed as questionable.
Waddle was a full participant in Friday’s practice and said he intends to play.
Eskridge sustained a finger injury in the past 24 hours. He was a limited participant in Friday’s practice.
A decision on Armstead’s status will be made Sunday morning, coach Mike McDaniel said. He has missed one game and was forced to leave two other games early (including last Sunday’s Cleveland game) because of a knee injury. He practiced on a limited basis Friday after not practicing Wednesday and Thursday.
Walker did not practice all week, while Tagovailoa was a limited participant all week. Tyler Huntley will start at quarterback on Sunday at the Jets (4:25 p.m., CBS), and Skylar Thompson likely will be the backup. Here’s what Tagovailoa said about his hip injury.
Holland has been dealing with a wrist injury all week and his practice participation was limited all week. Safety Jordan Poyer, who was limited earlier this week by finger and knee injuries, is off the injury report and said he will play Sunday.
Meanwhile, offensive tackle Kendall Lamm - who went on injured reserve this week - said on social media that he underwent successful back surgery on Friday morning.
He explained his injury on Instagram: “It’s been among the more trying things that I’ve had to deal with,” Lamm said. “I have a disc in my left side and my back that’s bulging into one of my nerves that’s causing my entire left side to go numb. It has been one of the more trying things to try to sleep at night.
“It’s been one of the more trying things trying to walk even that Sunday morning before the game, like I could barely feel certain things in my left side. But of course, we do, we try to do what we can for the team, and I know we wanted to make the playoffs, and playing is near and dear to me. It’s a sacred thing, so I try my best to do whatever I can to help.
“But at the same time, as I’ve been told, this is nothing to play with, so the procedure will be done when it’s done. And you know, I appreciate all the well wishes and everything. I know I said this might be my last year, and we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. I just want my dogs to handle business this Sunday and hopefully get into the playoffs. So God bless you guys. Happy New Year, and take care of yourselves.”
Lamm will be a free agent this offseason and indicated in recent weeks that he doesn’t know if he will play next season.
