Dolphins activate Wynn, make three other moves. And one potential move pending

The Dolphins on Monday activated a veteran who has missed 13 months with injuries but delayed a decision on their veteran long snapper.

Miami removed guard Isaiah Wynn from the physically unable to perform list on Monday and released guard Lester Cotton.

Wynn hasn’t played since sustaining a season-ending quadriceps injury last October against Philadelphia. Wynn, who also has been dealing with a knee injury, began practicing two weeks ago.

But offensive line coach Butch Barry said last week that Robert Jones will remain the starter at left guard after Wynn’s return.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins delayed removing long snapper Blake Ferguson from the NFL’s non-football injury list.

Instead, they released Tucker Addington - who was Miami’s long-snapper the past three games but had run out of practice squad elevations - and signed long snapper Zach Triner, who has appeared in 81 career games in six seasons with Tampa Bay (2019-24).

Coach Mike McDaniel has said that Ferguson would play again this season. But he has missed six games since going on injured reserve due to personal reasons. Triner can be elevated three times.

As for Wynn, he began last season as a Dolphins starter and was exceptional as a pass blocker; he permitted no sacks and four pressures in 224 pass blocking snaps, per PFF.

Except for former teammate Robert Hunt, no NFL guard who pass blocked that many snaps permitted fewer pressures in 2023.

PFF gave Wynn a much lower run blocking grade -- 96th among 100 guards.

Wynn, 28, came to the Dolphins in the spring of 2023 after playing 43 games and starting 40 in four seasons for the Patriots, primarily as a tackle.

The Dolphins decided to keep undrafted rookie guard Andrew Meyer over Cotton, who appeared in 28 games and started nine for Miami, including a playoff game against Buffalo. He played just 60 offensive snaps this season.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have until Thursday to activate safety Patrick McMorris from injured reserve. Otherwise, he would be required to remain on IR for the remainder of the season.

Because McMorris already has been designated to return, he is one of four players who already have counted toward the eight maximum that the Dolphins can bring off IR this season. The others: Tua Tagovailoa, River Cracraft and Cam Smith.

That leaves Miami with four more designated-to-return slots. Ferguson and quarterback Tyler Huntley would count toward those eight if they are designated to return.

Players on PUP, including Wynn and edge rushers Bradley Chubb and Cam Goode, do not count toward that eight-player limit. Chubb and Goode remain sidelined by knee injuries sustained late last season.

NEWS NOTE

Here’s what Mike McDaniel said Monday about the availability of Kendall Fuller, Terron Armstead and Anthony Walker Jr.

The Dolphins did not practice Monday but were required to release an injury report in advance of Thursday’s game at Green Bay (8:20 p.m., NBC).

If they had practiced, Armstead (knee), Fuller (concussion), Walker (hamstring) and edge player Tyus Bowser (knee/calf) would not have practiced.
