Dolphins greats gather for private memorial service for Mercury Morris. See the photos
Seventy people, including several former Dolphins teammates, gathered earlier this month for Eugene “Mercury” Morris’ private memorial service, reflecting on the life of one of the most colorful and popular personalities in team history.
Morris -- a three-time Pro Bowl running back and a key member of the Dolphins’ undefeated 1972 team -- died on Sept. 21 at 77. His son, Troy-Jeffery Morris, said his father had cholangiocarcimona, a rare form of cancer.
Former Dolphins teammates Larry Cskona, Larry Little, Dick Anderson and Tom Smith were among those at the Oct. 5 service at Granada Church in Coral Gables.
Others who came to pay their respects included former Dolphins running back Mark Higgs, former Dolphins communications director Harvey Greene and CBS-4’s Jim Berry.
Here’s a photo gallery from the service, as provided to The Herald by Troy-Jeffery Morris and photographer Wade Collier.
