Details on the Dolphins’ final injury report. And more Tyreek Hill fallout
The Dolphins enter Thursday’s game against Buffalo in a difficult position at running back, with Raheem Mostert ruled out and De’Von Achane listed as questionable.
Mostert has been nursing a chest injury, which Mike McDaniel said he sustained early in last Sunday’s game against Jacksonville. “His injury, not many people play with,” McDaniel said.
“My sense is it’s not something that time won’t take care of,” McDaniel said. “However, I’m definitely not going to make him worse” by playing him.
Former Chargers team doctor David Chao, now a media personality, said on X that he believes Mostert sustained a sternoclavicular joint sprain and is “likely to miss Week 3 at least as well, but hopefully stay off of injured reserve.”
McDaniel was noncommittal about a timetable for Mostert’s injury.
Achane has been dealing with an ankle injury; he limped off late in the opener after catching a pass with 1:10 left. But Achane participated in Wednesday’s practice on a limited basis and was moving well before being listed as questionable.
“De’Von we will see how it plays out,” McDaniel said when asked if Achane will play in Thursday’s game at Hard Rock Stadium (8:20 p.m., CBS 4, Amazon Prime).
Rookie running back Jaylen Wright, who was a healthy scratch in Game 1, likely will be active for Thursday’s game. Jeff Wilson Jr. and Wright are the Dolphins’ two healthy running backs on the 53-man roster. Deneric Prince, a former standout at Tulsa, is the Dolphins’ practice squad running back.
The Dolphins also listed receiver Malik Washington (quadricep) as out and safety Elijah Campbell as questionable. Campbell has an Achilles injury that popped up Wednesday.
McDaniel was noncommittal about whether cornerback Jalen Ramsey (hamstring) and linebacker Jaelan Phillips (November torn Achilles) will play more or less than they did in the opener. But both will play in the game.
Right guard Liam Eichenberg, who had been limited Monday and Tuesday with a shoulder injury, practiced fully Wednesday and was cleared to play.
The Dolphins have until Thursday at 4 p.m. to elevate any players from the practice squad.
FRITZ POLLARD WEIGHS IN
The Fritz Pollard Alliance Foundation — which was founded “with the mission to promote diversity and equality of job opportunities in NFL coaching, front office, and scouting staff” — issued a statement on Tyreek Hill being handcuffed and given a citation during a traffic stop on Sunday.
Teammates Jonnu Smith and Calais Campbell were admonished by police for stopping during the incident, and Campbell was handcuffed.
“The Fritz Pollard Alliance strongly condemns the actions of the Miami-Dade police officers who on Sunday engaged Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell, and Jonnu Smith in a violent, threatening, and demeaning manner,” the statement said. “These three men experienced what scores of black and brown people across the country have experienced when interacting with police and what scores more fear. Thankfully, on this occasion, nobody was seriously hurt. Were Hill, Campbell, and Smith not ultimately recognized as NFL players, the outcome may have been dire. It is our prayer that interactions with police across society will continue to improve and not escalate.
“The Fritz Pollard Alliance calls on the Miami-Dade Police Department to reassess its standard operating procedures with respect to both traffic stops and engaging with bystanders. Failing to do so invites a repeat of what occurred Sunday morning with potentially more tragic consequences.”
Hill — who received citations for careless driving and seat belt violations — has asked for the dismissal of Danny Torres, the police officer who was placed on administrative duties.
▪ The Dolphins said there will be no procedural entrance or parking changes for players or fans for Thursday’s game.
